The Studio

In the 1840s, colonial houses often had a secondary structure known as a barn. These barns were integral to the agricultural lifestyle and were typically built using timber frames. The barn evolved from earlier English barn designs, adapting to meet the needs of commercial agriculture with innovations like gambrel roofs and red-hued facades. These barns were multifunctional, housing livestock and storing crops under one roof. Overall, barns were a significant component of New England's rural architecture, reflecting both practical and aesthetic considerations of the time.

When we bought the property in 2021, there were only 3 stone walls left of the so-called barn. The roof had collapsed over the years. We found local masons who worked with the same stone to bring back the barn to its original shape.
